BACK TO SPAIN

This poster by the artist, Bauset, celebrates the Columna de Hierro or "Column of Iron", an anarchist militia. One of the most notorious anarchist formations, the column refused to be controlled by the central republican government. The strategy of the republicans was to first win the war against fascism before addressing the need for radical social change, while most anarchists felt that pushing for total social revolution was the best way to defeat the forces of fascism.

The slogans at the bottom of the poster read, "For a Free Humanity! For Anarchy!"
