BACK
TO PUNK FLYERS
The
anonymous punk artist who created this particular flyer
used an image by the 1930's anti-fascist German artist,
John Heartfield. The artwork by Heartfield is titled;
"As in the Middle Ages... so in the Third Reich."
The top half of the design shows a relief sculpture from
a German Gothic Church portraying a man broken on a wheel,
with the bottom half of the design showing a man broken
on the Nazi Swastika. I
frequented the HONG KONG CAFE, a venue located in
the historic "China Town" area of LA's downtown.
It became one of the few places where punk bands could play
in Los Angeles during 1979 since most other clubs had closed
their doors to punk. I saw many of the bands that played
there... GERMS, FEAR, X, BAGS,
CATHOLIC DISCIPLINE, MIDDLE CLASS, PLUGZ,
DOA, and MUTANTS, to name but a few.
