Murals Under The Stars

The artworks of Mexican muralist, David Alfaro Siqueiros, come to life in a dramatic outdoor slide-show presented by The Museum of Latin American Art (MoLAA). The museum, located in Long Beach, California, will project life-sized images of the muralist's works on a 1800 square foot wall. The evening event is the culmination of MoLAA's, Murals Under The Stars series, where the artworks of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera were also similarly projected on two separate nights. I recently heard museum director, Gregorio Luke, on KPFK radio (the LA affiliate of the Pacifica network), giving an impassioned talk on the importance of art in our society - particularly in these dark days. After Luke’s impressive overview of the mission of MoLAA, he gave away tickets to the slide-show on the air, and since I was the first to call the radio station… I won a pair. Naturally, being a great admirer of Siqueiros and the Mexican Muralist movement, I’m overjoyed at the prospect of seeing this presentation with my fellow Angelinos under the night-time sky. The Siqueiros slide-show takes place on Saturday, August 13th, 2005 at 8:30 pm. Visit the MoLAA website for ticket information.
