Art and the CAUSE

It might be a bit late to post this item, but the Central Coast Alliance United for A Sustainable Economy (CAUSE), with be exhibiting and selling a number of my prints at their 3rd Annual Fall Tardeada and Art Show in Oxnard California. The cultural event takes place at the CAUSE office courtyard, on Friday, September 16th, from 5:00 to 7:30 pm (for more info, call: 486-9777 x273.) Along with the display of my art there will be food, music and Day of the Dead crafts. I was tentatively scheduled to address the gathering on the subject of art and its role in helping to create social change - but unfortunately circumstances prevented my attending. The event is a fund raiser for the organization, with the $10 ticket price and all other monies going towards funding the group's noble efforts.

CAUSE is a grass roots, non-profit organization that works to improve the standard of living for low income working people in California's Central Coast Region of Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties. The group collaborates with the region's labor, environmental, community and interfaith organizations, to work on the issues of a living wage, sustainable development, health coverage for all, economic justice for women, and a multitude of other vital issues. What makes CAUSE different from other like-minded groups I’ve encountered is their understanding of the importance of art in activism. While I wasn’t able to fully participate in their Sept. 16th event, I hope to work with them in the near future, possibly in the Spring.
