Yamashita Masato created this painting based on what he saw at Hiroshima. He was 20 years old at the time of the bombing. In his own words he wrote:

"The charred body of a child about 4 or 5 years of age lies on the bank of the Army Nishi Parade ground on August 9, his arms raised to the sky."
