"Whatever Happened To The Future!"
Mark Vallen 1980
Silkscreen - 15" x 16" inches

Artist's statement:

"When I created this poster in 1980 people had began to wonder aloud about the future and their stake in it. Suddenly, the chilling refrain of the Sex Pistols, "No Future", began to have a ring of truth to it. My artwork was eventually printed as a popular cover for the LA Weekly.

Now we're in the 21st Century, and strangely enough, the question is still being asked."

Vallen's print is included in Under the Big Black Sun: California Art 1974-1981, a comprehensive survey of California artists during an extraordinary period of American history. The exhibit runs at the MOCA Geffen Contemporary in Los Angeles from Oct. 1, 2011 through Feb. 13, 2012.
